Never has the NBA had so many competent point guards as they have now. In the past, it was relatively easy to point out the obvious stars in the position such as Magic, Stockton, Gary Payton, Joe Dumars, pba etc., but today you get almost headache if you do attempt to find the best.
In the last two years, journalists and other idiots debated whether Deron Williams of the Utah Jazz was marginally better / worse than Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets. I do not disagree that the two raises the bar vigorously where skilled a point guard should be, but we exclude a number of potent point guards from the discussion, which stops now! Deron Williams and Chris Paul rumbles still out fine, but in retrospect come whizzing following players:
Derrick Rose shows at the moment why he was originally chosen as the no. 1 in draften. He comes to the basket at will and pumps one poster out after another as a result of his trampoline impetus. He has been asked to score more until Carlos Boozer pba coming back from injury, which has blinded pba many from the fact that this year he has been far better to deliver and make "the real game." His jumper is also improved, and continues the trend he is simply not going to stop. Fast do not lie!
Rookie sensation John Wall is simply a freak. As late as the day before yesterday, he was just 4 steals from a quadouble-double: 9 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists and 6 steals. All this and only 1 turnover. pba He is a pass-first point guard who reads the game exceptionally well. Mixer you feel about mindless speed, insane athletic ability, think Derrick Rose and indescribable potential and you have a player who does indeed have kicked the door into the NBA's elite at the position:
Brandon Jennings started as lightning storms last year, but hit the wall and slid out of the talk about Rookie of The Year. He is slender, has a shot that is as different as night and day, he is undisciplined and POO quickly. pba He is the perfect fit for the Milwaukee Bucks, who finally has a real point guard. He has all the potential to become an extremely clever game controls. pba He has already shown that he can lead a team, as he did against Atlanta in the playoffs in June and that he can explode for +50 points. Fear The Deer!
Russell Westbrook is slowly but surely become part of Oklohoma's 1-2 punch. Along with Kevin Durant opened the last season pba the world's eyes to Oklohoma City Thunder and pushed LA Lakers to the limit in the playoffs. He recalls a young Jason Kidd, but the "small" difference that he can jump up through the roof and tear curve down whoever is in front of him. He rebounder better than most forwards and delivers far better than anticipated. This summer's experience in Turkey has clearly improved his eye for the game, and has so far shown that he is a future-husband to an absolute top team in the West:
Tyreeke pba Evans, last year's Rookie of the Year, is the only player with Michael Jordan, LeBron pba James and Oscar Robinson pba had an average of 20 ppg, 5 apg and 5 rpg in their rookie season. Fairly good company to be in, to say the least. He does not play for a good team, though Sacramento Kings has potential. He does a lot with incredibly little, making pba his State so much more impressive. His ball-handling is simply incredible. Especially for a point guard of his size. Will he first developed a deadly low-post game, he is creepy to cover up, as he already wading in and out of the paint as it suits him:
But simply because he has made the Boston Celtics to your team. Talk of The Big Three will always be there, but in reality it's Rondo who controls the team and him that dictates how far they reach. He is on track to smash the record for most assists in a season, pba peaking still steal rankings and distributes the ball with an unprecedented low turnover rate. He has a very suspect shot speaks against him, but when the opponents' defense gives him space, it gives him just a better vision to find his teammates with millimeter accurate passes. If the Celtics win this year it is solely due. Of Rajon Rondo:
Stephen Curry is perhaps the best-excess point guard NBA has seen in a long time. He simply had a great rookie season last season and seems to have lost a step over the summer. He and Monta Ellis and David Lee again made Golden State relevant, and a team that can not be taken for granted. pba Everything starts with Curry and his eye for the game. He does not look like much, but if you underestimate him, he burns you out. Either by
