Here are my suggestions for New Year's resolution for you as a reviewer film, art, computer games and literature: Do not use the word "cartoony". I mislikes hacks who dismiss cartoon medium in passing.
In spring 2005, I reviewed the comic Star Wars Republic Bergens Tidende. the house Had I had the same respect for other forms of artistic expression such as film critics in Norway's three largest newspapers, I would dismiss the series as "film-like" - with the same thin story, endless the house action scenes and charm solve Standups we are used to from Hollywoods last dozen films. When I did this, it is because I know that the whole film medium can not be dismissed because of some bad comic adaptations. For the same reason I do not dismiss the history of literature because of Illustrated Classics.
This should be elementary knowledge of any reviewer, but among film critics in Norway's three largest newspapers are ignorant public about comics medium as endless deep that art form is reduced to a pejorative adjective. Words like "cartoon-like", "the cartoon level" and "cartoon characters" used to show how a filmmaker is not able to give his work credibility and depth. And with reviews of Sin City when the reviewers a new low point.
Ellen Margrethe Sand VG depreciates entire comic medium in the preamble to its review of Sin City, but makes an exception for strip format: "Comics do best in short stripes. Very short stripes. It has its good reason. the house Stylish, sleek film 'Sin City' shows why. " One thing is what she mean by "very short stripes" (two routes, perhaps?), the house But it is startling to depreciate 90 percent of cartoon story in a movie review. It is as if to say that fiction does best in novella format, because you dislike the film adaptation of Stephen King's mammoth novel It.
